Hi, I’m Emily.
I’m a University of Florida student and IB Diploma graduate.
I created The Totipotent Tutor because I enjoy helping students
turn difficult material into something they can actually
understand and use.
My goal is to figure out why a student is getting stuck,
explain the reasoning clearly, and help them become more
confident working independently.

Studying more is not always the solution.
The important question is why the student is losing points or
struggling with the material in the first place.
I learned to study more intentionally.
Preparing for the ACT and completing the IB Diploma Programme
showed me how easy it is to spend a lot of time studying without
fixing the issue that is actually holding you back.
Sometimes the problem is a missing concept. Sometimes the student
knows the material but struggles with timing, organization, or
the way a question is presented.
That experience shaped the way I tutor. I try to identify the
specific problem first, explain it in a way that makes sense,
and then let the student apply the idea to something new.
How I work with students
Tutoring is one on one, so we can spend the session on the
specific issue that matters instead of following the same lesson
for every student.
Identify the problem
We figure out whether the issue is content, strategy, timing,
or a recurring mistake.
Understand the reasoning
I explain why a method works instead of giving the student
another procedure to memorize.
Apply it independently
The student tries another example so we know the idea actually
makes sense.
Subjects I work with
Sessions can focus on current course work, test preparation,
practice questions, or a specific skill the student wants to
improve.
ACT Tutoring
Math, English, Reading, Science, timing, strategy, and review
of missed questions.
IB Tutoring
English, French, Math Analysis and Approaches SL, and Business
Management SL.
I’m a student too.
I know school is only one part of a student’s life. I want
tutoring to be useful without turning an already busy schedule
into something even more stressful.
Outside of school and tutoring, I enjoy watching TV, playing
the piano, and working on puzzles.
I also want students to feel comfortable asking questions and
saying when something does not make sense. Mistakes are much
easier to fix when a student does not feel embarrassed about
making them.
